Family-friendly pub with rooms in York - Free parking and homemade pies

Amenities & Services

The Rose & Crown York offers free on-site parking, a rare find near York's city center. The pub features a wide selection of local ales and one of York's largest whiskey collections. Evening entertainment includes a weekly quiz and a cozy communal lounge with a real fire.

Accommodations

Guest rooms include family rooms with private bathrooms and king-size beds. The building is a Grade II listed structure from the 1930s, with original leaded windows and dado rails. Each room is cleaned daily and stocked with tea, coffee, and toiletries.

Dining & Bar

The restaurant serves British cuisine with homemade pies, including steak and Guinness pie, described by guests as the best in York. Breakfast offers a full English, eggs Benedict, and vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options. The bar features a fine selection of cask ales and over 50 malt whiskies.

Location & Parking

Located 10-15 minutes' walk from York Minster and the Shambles, just outside the city walls. Free parking for guests is available behind the pub, eliminating expensive city-center parking fees. The property is within easy reach of Clifford's Tower, the Barbican, and the National Railway Museum.

Family-Friendly Facilities

Family rooms can accommodate up to four people, with extra beds and high chairs available on request. Children's meals are offered in the restaurant, and the pub's beer garden provides a safe outdoor space. The location is a short walk from York University and family attractions like the Shambles.

Highlights

Parking: Free on-site car park, rare in central York

Dining: Homemade pies - steak and Guinness pie praised as best in York

Drinks: Large selection of local ales and over 50 malt whiskies

Breakfast: Cooked-to-order options including vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free

Location: 10-15 minute walk to York Minster and city walls

Rooms: Grade II listed building with family rooms and daily housekeeping

“The Rose & Crown balances historic charm with some practical advantages, including free parking that's rare so close to central York. I found the staff consistently praised for their attentiveness, and the on-site pub adds to the convivial atmosphere. While some rooms can be affected by street noise and may feel dated, the ample breakfast and convenient location-especially for the Barbican-are definite highlights.”
